Evacuations expand in Sorrento Valley due to fire

Update 7 p.m.: The fire is 15 percent contained with forward spread stopped. Evacuation orders and warnings remain in place.
Update 5 p.m.: The fire is now 130 acres with zero containment, burning south or southwest. A temporary evacuation point has been set up at the Mandell Weiss Eastgate Park, located at 4161 Eastgate Mall.
August 16, 2026 (Sorrento Valley) — Evacuations have been ordered for the #SorrentoFire, burning northwest of the 10700 Block of Juniper Park Lane in Sorrento Valley. Road closures are in effect at 10800 Vista Sorrento Pkwy, as well as Sorrento Valley Blvd and Jasmine Crest Lane, per San Diego Police.

A total of 54 units & 160 fire personnel are currently engaged in fire suppression operations.
At least two air tankers and multiple strike teams are on site.
